Frenford vs Athletic Newham – Match Report

Athletic Newham didn’t get off to the best start, as Frenford took an early lead just six minutes in. Warren Kayembe latched onto the end of a corner to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.

It took Newham a while to settle into the game, and while we eventually built some attacking momentum, our finishing let us down. Frenford, meanwhile, kept pushing for a second, making for a competitive first half. The main talking point of the half revolved around Liam Foster, who was shown a yellow card midway through the first period. Just before the break, he was sin-binned, leaving questions about whether it should have been a red card. Both managers sought clarification from the referee at half-time, and everything was explained after some confusion.

Half Time: Frenford 1-0 Athletic Newham

Newham came out much stronger in the second half, creating a series of chances, but Frenford’s keeper, Jimmy Parker, pulled off some fine saves. The breakthrough finally came with 10 minutes of normal time remaining. A quick free-kick by James Runham found Julian Sarmiento-Ramirez out on the right. He beat his man and delivered a ball into the box for Jaime Obama Nvumba, who turned and smashed home the equalizer.

Just five minutes later, Newham pressed forward in search of a winner. James Runham again was involved, breaking past his defender on the left and crossing into the box. Jaime Obama Nvumba met the cross with his head, but it rattled the bar. Fortunately, Isaac Sijuade was in the right place at the right time to tap the ball over the line, marking his debut goal for the club and sealing all three points.
