Nothing away from Soul Tower Hamlets – they showed once again why they’re one of the strongest sides in the league and why they’ll be up there come the end of the season.
They punished our mistakes and put the game out of sight early. We actually started brightly, with Chuks rattling the crossbar inside the first 10 minutes. For around 20 minutes it was an even game, but then Soul Tower Hamlets stepped up a gear and capitalised on error after error.
Jason Hallet opened the scoring, Rian Patel struck twice, and Steve Carvell converted from the penalty spot to give them a commanding 4-0 half-time lead. Thankfully the whistle came when it did, as it could have been even worse.
To our credit, the lads came out stronger in the second half and restored some pride, winning the half 2-1. Goals from Chuks Uzor (67’) and (84’) gave us something to take away, but the damage had already been done.
Plenty to work on at the training ground now, as Jonny and the boys quickly turn attention to the BBC Sport Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday night, away to Coggeshall Town.
