Club History

The club was founded in 2015 as a youth team known as Lopes Tavares London before transitioning to adult football the following season and joining the Essex Alliance Football League in 2016

After two seasons in the Senior Division, we applied for and joined the newly formed Division One South (Step 6), part of the Eastern Counties Football League, for the 2018/19 season.

In the 2020/21 season, the club was renamed from Lopes Tavares London to Athletic Newham. That same season, we were promoted to the Essex Senior Premier Division.

In the 2021/22 season, we finished in a respectable 8th position in the Essex Senior League, just 7 points outside the playoffs. The following season (2022/23) saw us narrowly miss the playoffs by a single point.

The 2023/24 season with a respectable midtable finish after a disappointed season, but there was 2 highlights in the season with Richard Kone signing a Professional contract with a League One side, We also added a Sunday side to our ranks playing in the Essex Sunday Corinthian Football League Division Five,

in 2024/25 the club took on a remoulding project going all the way back to the club’s basic principles playing football with an identity, technique and as a unit which somehow was lost with the will to win. Athletic Newham sought to encourage youth but also to respect the tradecraft of a veteran. To win, but to do so with dignity.

After a turbulent 2023/24 campaign, the club made the decision to part ways with the existing management. Diogo Nobre was appointed as the new head coach, with Ricardo Freitas joining him as assistant. However, due to internal disagreements, Diogo departed in January 2025. Ricardo remained to guide the team through the remainder of the season, having already indicated that he would be returning to Portugal at the end of the campaign. The season was marked by inconsistency, ultimately resulting in a 10th-place finish.
