Athletic Newham 4-1 Romford Match Report

We welcomed Romford to the Bobby Moore Sports Hub today as we look to turn around this bad run, we are currently on after a great start to 2025.

Both teams started off fast with Romford going on the attack from the kick off and picking up a loose pass but we collected our self and made sure that the shot was blocked out and cleared which started a attack for Anderson Silva Baro to get the first clear shot of the game within side 1 minute but lucky for the Romford keeper it was soft and ended up rolling into him.

Louie Hiobi picks up the ball inside his own half and drives forward across the halfway line and plays it off to Anderson Silva Baro who took it pass 2 Romford players and found space between the backline of Romford to find Leonardo De Carvalho Pedro who turned on to his right foot and shot across the Jake Anderson in the Romford goal to make it 1-0.

Romford used the goal as fire to get them going by the looks off it as they pushed from the kick off and managed to get them self-right back into the game with a freekick played into the box and with Harold Apu-Poku left the back thinking it was going to go out for a goal kick but Romford’s Charlie Morris had other ideas who got round to play the ball back across the goal for Harry Brown to be able to get it across the line after a few bodies throwing them self at the ball, 1-1 with 6 minutes on the clock.

But sides were going for this game with Newham having a great chance just moments after Romford scoring with some great play down the left side with Victor Ferrin and Louie Hiobi linking up to find Abdul Khamis with space just outside the box, but he just couldn’t keep his shot down and it sailed high over the bar.

After the start to the game both sides settled into the game but Newham seem to have the more of the ball playing it around and trying to find them gaps in behind Romford’s back line but they were standing strong and making it hard for Newham to get round even when they got in behind Jake Anderson was quick off his line to break any attack down.

After a long period of Newham controlling the game a lucky bounce for Romford at the back after a Nathan Fuma long ball found its way to Shermandin Arimeadze who got the ball onto his left and shot toward the goal but saw his shot come back of the post and land to the feet of Toheed Elegushi who had a shot and pulled out a great save from Harold Apu-Poku for Romford’s first corner of the game with 42 minutes on the clock.

Moments later Romford on the front foot with a throw in landing at the feet of Nathan Fuma who played a lovely cross into the Newham box almost had Harold Apu-Poku in trouble, but he managed to tip it over the bar for another Romford Corner.

Athletic Newham had most of the first half under control, but Romford come alive towards the end of the half, and they will be disappointed that the whistle was blown as they looked the most likely to take the lead going into half time

HALF TIME: – Athletic Newham 1-1 Romford

Second half kicks off just how the first half started with both teams going for it and this time Newham scored even quicker than they did in the first half with a long ball by Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed who found Abdul Khamis onside who was able to run down toward Romford goal and slot its past Jake Anderson to make it 2-1 with 47 minutes on the clock.

Romford for the second time find them self behind but again they didn’t let that get to them they used it to push forward and almost draw level again but lucky for Newham Toheeb Elegushi just sort his feet out quick enough to connect to the ball.

Sometime later Abdul Khamis swapped to the Left wing and found some space and played a great ball low and hard into the box and found Leonardo De Carvalho Pedro unmarked back post all is needed is a tap into an open goal but somehow, he missed it.

Not much happened for a while apart from some long shot and soft shots happening from both side but as the clock hit the 80th minute mark Newham break and Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed plays a through ball to Leonardo De Carvalho Pedro who beat the offside trap to run down on the Romford goal to make it 3-1 with a nice, placed shot.

Newham attacking more but not able to add more goals to the total that was until 85th minute when Victor Ferrini this time with the through ball for Kai Udofot-Torres to get on the end of it and giving Jake Anderson in the Romford goal no chance and giving Newham their 4th goal of the game.
